Elas foram as primeiras baterias secas comerciais, desenvolvidas a partir da tecnologia da c\u00e9lula \u00famida de Leclanch\u00e9. Essas baterias geram uma corrente el\u00e9trica direta a partir da rea\u00e7\u00e3o eletroqu\u00edmica entre o zinco e o di\u00f3xido de mangan\u00eas (MnO<sub>2<\/sub>) na presen\u00e7a de um eletr\u00f3lito.<\/p>\n<h2>Composi\u00e7\u00e3o e Funcionamento<\/h2>\n<p>O nome &#8220;zinco-carbono&#8221; vem do c\u00e1todo, que \u00e9 uma mistura de p\u00f3 de carbono (normalmente grafite) e \u00f3xido de mangan\u00eas (IV) (MnO<sub>2<\/sub>), envolvendo uma haste de carbono. O eletr\u00f3lito \u00e9 uma solu\u00e7\u00e3o aquosa saturada de cloreto de am\u00f4nio contendo cerca de 20% de cloreto de zinco.
