Essa altera\u00e7\u00e3o na estrutura eletr\u00f4nica pode levar \u00e0 forma\u00e7\u00e3o de duas categorias de \u00edons: c\u00e1tions e \u00e2nions.<\/p>\n<h2>C\u00e1tions: \u00cdons com Carga Positiva<\/h2>\n<p>Os c\u00e1tions s\u00e3o \u00edons com carga el\u00e9trica positiva. Isso ocorre devido \u00e0 perda de um ou mais el\u00e9trons, o que faz com que o n\u00famero de pr\u00f3tons (que possuem carga positiva) no n\u00facleo exceda o n\u00famero de el\u00e9trons (que possuem carga negativa). A carga de um el\u00e9tron \u00e9 considerada negativa por conven\u00e7\u00e3o, sendo igual e oposta \u00e0 carga de um pr\u00f3ton, que \u00e9 positiva por conven\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>Os c\u00e1tions s\u00e3o geralmente menores que os \u00e1tomos neutros correspondentes, uma vez que a perda de el\u00e9trons val\u00eancia, que est\u00e3o mais afastados do n\u00facleo, reduz o tamanho do \u00edon. A maioria dos c\u00e1tions tem um raio menor que 10<sup>\u221210<\/sup> m (10<sup>\u22128<\/sup> cm).
