Generalmente, deben cargarse antes de su primer uso. Se recargan aplicando corriente el\u00e9ctrica, lo que invierte las reacciones qu\u00edmicas que ocurren durante la descarga o uso. Los dispositivos que suministran la corriente adecuada se llaman cargadores.<\/p>\n<h3>Bater\u00eda de Plomo-\u00c1cido<\/h3>\n<p>La forma m\u00e1s antigua de bater\u00eda recargable es la de plomo-\u00e1cido, ampliamente utilizada en aplicaciones automotrices y n\u00e1uticas. Aunque pesadas, su bajo costo de fabricaci\u00f3n y altos niveles de corriente de arranque las hacen comunes en situaciones donde la capacidad es m\u00e1s importante que el peso y la manipulaci\u00f3n. Un ejemplo com\u00fan es la bater\u00eda de coche moderna, que generalmente puede entregar una corriente m\u00e1xima de 450 amperios.<\/p>\n<h3>Bater\u00eda de Iones de Litio (Li-ion)<\/h3>\n<p>Una bater\u00eda de iones de litio, o bater\u00eda Li-ion, es un tipo de bater\u00eda recargable en la que los iones de litio se mueven del \u00e1nodo al c\u00e1todo durante la descarga y viceversa al cargar. Tienen una alta densidad energ\u00e9tica, no presentan efecto memoria y tienen baja autodescarga. Su voltaje nominal es de 3.7 V.<\/p>\n<h3>Bater\u00eda de N\u00edquel-Hidruro Met\u00e1lico (NiMH)<\/h3>\n<p>La bater\u00eda de n\u00edquel-hidruro met\u00e1lico, NiMH, es una bater\u00eda recargable con un electrodo positivo de hidr\u00f3xido de n\u00edquel y un electrodo negativo de una aleaci\u00f3n absorbente de hidr\u00f3geno. Introducida comercialmente en 1989, se ha popularizado en veh\u00edculos h\u00edbridos el\u00e9ctricos y representa el 10% del mercado total de bater\u00edas recargables. Comparada con la bater\u00eda de NiCd, la NiMH ofrece un 40% m\u00e1s de energ\u00eda espec\u00edfica, resultando en aproximadamente el doble de capacidad. Adem\u00e1s, es menos afectada por el efecto memoria.<\/p>\n<h3>Bater\u00eda de N\u00edquel-Cadmio (Ni-Cd)<\/h3>\n<p>La bater\u00eda de n\u00edquel-cadmio, o bater\u00eda Ni-Cd, utiliza hidr\u00f3xido de n\u00edquel Ni(O)(OH) como c\u00e1todo y cadmio met\u00e1lico como \u00e1nodo.
